View SlideshowYesterday, I went to the
National Literacy and Numeracy Awards Ceremony and watched my Mum receive one of the 2006 Minister’s Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Improving Literacy and/or Numeracy.
From the Literacy and Numeracy week website:
Ms Rita van Haren, from the Australian Capital Territory, is Deputy Principal, Lanyon schools cluster, with responsibility for Pedagogy. Throughout her career in education, as both a classroom teacher and educator, she has been a passionate advocate of literacy teaching and learning. She is a dynamic leader who has generously devoted her time to the professional development of teachers across the ACT, and the broader teaching community.
.....
Ms van Haren’s ability to inspire, motivate and inform current and future educators in the field of literacy has been demonstrated through her commitment to and active involvement in several key literacy professional organisations. She has worked tirelessly to introduce effective practice approaches in order to improve the way literacy is taught in schools.
I'm so proud! And she definitely
inspires, motivates and informs me too! ;-)
The ceremony had the usual boring speeches and such, but it was great to attend, not only to see my Mum being recognised, but to see some of the amazing teachers out there.
